Alcohol Awareness Program Expand to include School

Eleven villages in Tongatapu have complete the awareness outreach program from the Tonga National Youth Congress now the team start expanding the program to schools, starting with the Tupou Tertiary Institute. These additional activities to school is not within the project plan but it is based from express of interest from certain focus group in the communities

On May 15 the team were with the Tupou Tertiary Institute (TTI). “First I would like to give a big applause for the alcohol awareness team for the great message that they have bring.” said one of the students “the great value of the message is that you don’t just tell the negative side of alcohol consumption which is a lot, but you also encourage us student to come up with a creative solution on our own to cut back on our alcohol consumption and be responsible for our action.

On May 17 the team also conduct a similar program but this time it is with the people who are living with disabilities youth group “we are thankful that you have inform us about all the harmful ways of alcohol consumption” said NATA president Kiteau “the impact of alcohol consumption is an inclusive issues and its affects everyone for sure, not only able bodies but it is so much more with people living with disabilities often we feel there is nowhere else to turn and the problem is to big for us to handle and we tend to drown our sorrow and problem with alcohol. Twelves youth participate in this program.
